When
it
comes to backyard birding in my neck of the Belizean bush, recently
it's been Parakeets gone wild. That's right, for each morning
and afternoon the trees around my house have been literally covered
with flocks of Parakeets. They lounge about the tree limbs chattering
about life as a Parakeet with hundreds of their fellow 'keets.
They seem to gather just after the break of day and almost as
quickly as you hear their arrival, collectively they swarm about
before heading south for the wetlands caught between my house
and the sea. And then, just about one hour before the return of
darkness, the flocks of Parakeets can be seen once again overhead
flying towards the rivers bend of the Rio Grande, a point on the
old Spanish map of Higaldo referred to simply as Parrot's Bend.
